St Helena Hospice helps patients, families and carers around North East Sussex deal with incurable illness, helping patients live well and die with dignity and choice.
Along with the work done in the community, the hospice has a wide range of facilities, including an inpatient unit, therapy and wellness centers and also run the St Helena Hospice and NHS North East Essex bereavement services. More than two thirds of the £8.7 million a year it costs to run the hospice is raised through the support of the local community, which allows their services to be free for people who need it.
With the reduction of grant funding, St Helena Hospice have a 5-year plan to reposition themselves to make the organisation self-sustainable through multiple revenue streams and moving away from the 80/20 funding split. The senior leadership team is keen to explore new ways for cost control, leading the hospice sector on best practice procurement and cost transformation.

Novo-K met with St Helena Hospice, carrying out a SMARTdiscovery interview, looking at the existing procurement strategy focusing on IT issues. Based on our SMARTprocurement model - Strategy, Measure, Approach, Relationships and Transformation, our report provides an overview and recommendations, together with identifying immediate areas of opportunity and concern.
The result was a full report for the Hospice breaking down their current strategy and giving recommendations moving forward in order to meet their 5-year plan.
