Last month, we sponsored the 7th Annual Get Berkshire Active Awards Ceremony. Get Berkshire Active are a local charity celebrating sporting excellence, and physical activity achievements across the county. They are a particularly exciting charity to work with as they award schools, workplaces and community groups on their accomplishments – as well as individual winners!
Each year, 12 awards are handed out across a number of categories, three of which are selected by a public vote. These are the Active Primary School Award, the Active Secondary School Award, and the Community Club of the Year. The remaining 9 categories, including the prestigious Sport Personality of the Year, are determined by an expert panel.
The 7th GBA Awards’ Sports Personality of the Year went to the highly talented netball player Francesca Williams. Fran was part of the Wasps squad that lifted the 2018 Netball Superleague trophy. She captained the England U21 squad that won bronze at the World Youth Championships in Botswana, and went on to dominate the Netball Europe championships, winning the gold medal.
This year, four remarkable personalities were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The awards go to inspirational and enthusiastic individuals that have changed the lives of those in the county through the power of sport. The winners are: Colin Fox (gymnastics), Gina MacGregor (netball), Margaret Deighan (netball) and Doug Cook (a coach, a referee and a school PE teacher).
The 8th GBA Awards ceremony will take place on the 28th February 2020 to celebrate Berkshire’s achievements for the year 2019 with the nomination process open in September 2019.
